Art Dubai Digital, launched in 2022, is a unique curated section of Art Dubai that is dedicated to the pioneering artists, collectives, galleries and platforms who are shaping today’s digital art world. Representing a broad geographic base and diverse perspectives, each year Art Dubai Digital features around 30 presentations that examine how artists and creative practitioners are working with advanced technologies – including artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality – to interrogate the key environmental, social and political challenges of our time.

Art Dubai Digital 2025 is curated by Gonzalo Herrero Delicado, Project Curator for Serpentine and an Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. Previous editions of Art Dubai Digital have been curated by Auronda Scalera and Alfredo Cramerotti (2024); Clara Che Wei Peh (2023) and Chris Fussner (2022).

Reflecting Dubai’s ongoing commitment to innovation and new technologies, Art Dubai Digital is complemented by an annual Digital Summit that convenes international and local industry leaders to discuss and debate the expanding digital art ecosystem and Dubai’s unique place within it.

2024

“Expansion / Diffusion” explored the intersection of new media art and technologies in order to expand our understanding of contemporary culture.

2023

The second edition showcased participants with innovative new media programmes, including a range of digital platforms building virtual art spaces alongside art collectives and more traditional bricks and mortar galleries.

2022

The first edition represented a broad geographic base of traditional gallery models, digitally native platforms and collectives, with presentations by some of the most innovative artists working in the digital space.

COMMISSIONS

Ouchhh

For Art Dubai 2024, Studio Ouchhh, alongside Hilton Contemporary, unveiled an interactive installation centred on the human body, capturing the readings of five categories of brainwaves to build a comprehensive database of the human being.

Presented by Julius Baer, Krista Kim’s immersive, digital installation Heart Space مساحة القلب at Art Dubai 2024, allowed guests to connect through the universal language of the human heartbeat. In real-time, each visitor’s unique heart rhythm was visualised through a meditative abstract tapestry displayed across a dynamic LED canvas, promoting the concept of ‘oneness’.

In 2022, the Art Dubai Digital Artist Commission Yugen (2018), showed an AI-driven moving-image artwork by British film director Martha Fiennes, starring actress Salma Hayek Pinault. The computer engine powering the work drove the narrative, meaning that each viewer had their own, near-bespoke experience with spontaneous visuals that evade prediction.

2025 ART DUBAI DIGITAL CURATOR ANNOUNCED

The fourth edition will be curated by Gonzalo Herrero Delicado, London-based curator currently working for Serpentine galleries and as Associate Lecturer at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art.

PRESCRIBING DIGITAL ART

Presented by Julius Baer, the 2024 art commission by multidisciplinary artist Krista Kim, explored megatrends like “extended longevity” by visualising each visitor’s unique heart rhythm in real-time.
