The Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Swiss luxury watchmaker and jeweller, Piaget, jointly hosted a private Suhour to commemorate the ‘Sunny Side of Life’ Art Project and announce the six shortlisted project entries.
The elegant gathering was held to honour the art project that aimed to challenge the UAE-based designers and artists to deliver unique art installations.
Earlier in May, UAE-based artists were invited to submit their portfolios for review by The Cultural Office Committee, and the shortlisted artworks were announced and showcased during the event. The winning piece, out of the shortlisted, will be produced and displayed as a central work in the Piaget Lounge at Art Dubai 2018.
The six designers are Bahar Al Bahar; Layth Mahdi; Mohamed Rowaizak; Hamza Al Omari; Jawaher Al Khayyal and Ibrahim Ibrahim.
Commenting on the occasion, Mona Bin Kalli, Director of The Cultural Office said, “Our collaboration with Piaget reflects our joint vision and the commitment of Her Highness Sheikha Manal to nurture UAE-based artists and designers and encourage them to contribute to the thriving cultural and arts scene.”
She added: “The Sunny Side of Life art project offers emerging talents a unique opportunity to develop their skills and unleash their potential by bringing their creations to the global art corridors. The overwhelming response that we got for the project reflects the keenness and interest of these artists to push the boundaries of their creativity.”
Chabi Nouri, the CEO of Piaget, further added, “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the esteemed Cultural Office of Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for such a noble cause recognizing the skill and talent of regional artists in the UAE. The project has received a number of entries that have filled us with pride and it was truly a tough decision to be able to shortlist only six and further just one eventual winner.”
The project has been organized as part of a MoU agreement between The Cultural Office and Piaget to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations, and it was signed by Mona Bin Kalli and Chabi Nouri during the 11th edition of Art Dubai.
The theme of the art installation project is ‘Sunny Side of Life’, reflecting a culture of joy inspired by radiant moments and sparks of happiness from a life lived under the sun in some of the most beautiful places in the world. The theme represents art de vivre; an invitation to live life to the fullest and dream big.
