SECCI was founded in Florence in 2013 and has since earned an international reputation for its high-quality, curatorial-driven exhibition programme. Housed in the historic 15th-century Palazzo Ricasoli, the gallery has long been an incubator for artistic creativity. Its rigorous curatorial approach has fostered collaborations with critics and curators including Pier Paolo Pancotto (Villa Medici, Rome), David Anfam (leading authority on modern American art and Senior Consulting Curator at the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver), Essence Harden (Head Curator at the California African American Museum, Los Angeles), Edoardo Monti (curator and founder of Palazzo Monti, Brescia), Angel Moya Garcia (Curator at Fondazione Bevilacqua la Masa, Venice), and Sergio Risaliti (Director at Museo del Novecento, Florence, and Guest Curator of the Modern Art Department at Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte).

In 2021, the gallery expanded its focus to include Post-War avant-gardism, marking the beginning of a series of important collaborations with renowned Artists’ Estates, starting with an extensive retrospective dedicated to Titina Maselli. This event marked a turning point, and since then, SECCI has continued to present a multidisciplinary programme that seamlessly blends Modern and Contemporary art. The gallery’s approach follows the cross-cutting nature of art itself, allowing these periods to coexist in an innovative and engaging way.

The same year, SECCI opened a second venue in Milan, strategically positioned in the heart of the city. This new space has enabled the gallery to host larger exhibitions, with a greater focus on ambitious, site-specific projects. The Milan expansion also inspired the launch of NOVO, a new programme dedicated to contemporary experimentation curated by a single curator.
