The gallery was founded in Tallinn in 2010 by Olga Temnikova and Indrek Kasela in an attempt to introduce a commercial gallery in the predominantly publicly funded network of art institutions in Estonia. Temnikova & Kasela is working with leading artists from the region combining them with promising younger generation stars, as well as incorporating international artists in the programme.  In 2012 Alina Astrova was appointed as gallery curator.

With the support of Estonian Enterprise and the Ministry of Culture of Estonia, Temnikova & Kasela recently also collaborated on the establishment of the Estonian Contemporary Art Development Centre, a new institution in the Estonian cultural landscape aiming to intensify international cooperation between regional professionals. The project involves artists, curators, and other art specialist from Estonia and abroad; and organizes interdisciplinary residencies, exhibitions, workshops and seminars.
